Drama about a clash between culture and independence in an old Chinese society. For her 40th birthday, Mrs. Wu gives her husband a mistress as a gift to end her sexual ties with her husband. In doing so, she goes against thousands of years of tradition, with all the consequences that entails. Starring William Dafoe (Platoon, Body of Evidence). 'Pavilion of Women' is already called the first Chinese Hollywood film and is based on a novel by Pearl Buck. The film was produced by Luo Yan, who plays the lead role together with William Dafoe ('Shadow of the Vampire'). The film was shot in both China and England and, apart from some Mandarin Chinese, is spoken entirely in English.
