Moulin Rouge
A colorful masterpiece from director John Huston (African Queen, Annie), based on the life of Toulouse Lautrec, a 19th century Parisian artist who suffered a growth disorder as a result of an accident in his youth.
John Huston beautifully captures the atmosphere of Montmartre, its characters, and Lautrec's distorted view of existence. As a result, Moulin Rouge was nominated for six Oscars in 1952, eventually winning two for Art Direction and Costume Design.
In 2001, a remake of this film by director Baz Luhrmann was released, and was again nominated for an Oscar.
Running time 115 minutes
