Procescontroleurs textiel voeren textielprocesoperaties uit, vervullen technische functies in verschillende aspecten van het ontwerp, de productie en de kwaliteitscontrole van textielproducten en houden zich bezig met kostenbeheersing voor processen. Zij maken gebruik van 'computer aided manufacturing' (CAM, of computerondersteunde productie) en 'computer integrated manufacturing' (CIM, of computergeïntegreerde productie) om ervoor te zorgen dat het hele productieproces volgens de specificaties verloopt. Zij vergelijken en wisselen individuele processen uit met andere afdelingen (bv. calculatieafdeling) en ondernemen passende acties. Zij analyseren de structuur en eigenschappen van grondstoffen die in textiel worden gebruikt, helpen bij het opstellen van specificaties voor de productie ervan en analyseren en interpreteren testgegevens.
